Because some people will believe almost anything they are the victims on the morning of April 1. April Fools' Day also known as All fools day, has no clear origin, but is sais to derive from Hilaria, a Roman spring festival of jollity and dissipatiom. An alternative suggestion, which is based on the Bible is that this was the day on which Noah released a dove, on what seemed a fools errand, to find land on Earth that appeared flooded.
The fooling tradition may have come to Britain from France during the 16th century. There, April Fools Day is known as "poisson d'avril'. being a corruption of the word for passion and and a referance to the mocking and tormenting of Jesus by the Romans on the day of Crucifixion, remembered aroubd this time of the year.
One of the earliest referances to April fooling in England comes in notes by the antiquarian John Aubrey.A notorious practical joke involved a 'Ceremony of Wishing the White Lions'.In 1860 Londonder's were sent 'official' invitations to witness this ceremony at the Tower of London. They were to enter the non-exsistent White Gate and many cab driversrepeatedly drove the lenght of thr Tower Hill looking for it. A similar trick was played to have been played in1698.
