Steve Jobs had no formal schooling in engineering, yet he's listed as the inventor or co-inventor on more than 300 US patents. These are some of the significant products that were created under his direction:
1. Apple I (1976) — Apple's first product was a computer for hobbyists and engineers, made in small numbers. Steve Wozniak designed it, while Jobs orchestrated the funding and handled the marketing.
2. Apple II (1977) — One of the first successful personal computers, the Apple II was designed as a mass-market product rather than something for engineers or enthusiasts. It was still largely Wozniak's design. Several upgrades for the model followed, and the product line continued until 1993.
3. Lisa (1983) — Jobs' visit to Xerox Corp.'s research center in Palo Alto inspired him to start work on the first commercial computer with a graphical user interface, with icons, windows and a cursor controlled by a mouse. It was the foundation for today's computer interfaces, but the Lisa was too expensive to be a commercial success.
4. Macintosh (1984) — Like the Lisa, the Macintosh had a graphical user interface. It was also cheaper and faster and had the backing of a large advertising campaign behind it. People soon realized how useful the graphical interface was for design. That led "desktop publishing," accomplished with a Mac coupled to a laser printer, to soon become a sales driver.
5. NeXT computer (1989) — After being forced out of Apple, Jobs started a company that built a powerful workstation computer. The company was never able to sell large numbers, but the computer was influential: The world's first Web browser was created on one. Its software also lives on as the basis for today's Macintosh and iPhone operating system.
6. iMac (1998) — When Jobs returned to Apple in 1996, the company was foundering, with an ever shrinking share of the PC market. The radical iMac was the first step in reversing the slide. It was strikingly designed as a bubble of blue plastic that enclosed both the monitor and the computer. Easy to set up, it captured the imagination just as people across the world were having their eyes opened to the benefits of the Internet and considering getting their first home computer.
7. iPod (2001) — It wasn't the first digital music player with a hard drive, but it was the first successful one. Apple's expansion into portable electronics has had vast ramifications. The iPod's success prepared the way for the iTunes music store and the iPhone.
8. iTunes store (2003) — Before the iTunes store, buying digital music was a hassle, making piracy the more popular option. The store simplified the process and brought together tracks from all the major labels. The store became the largest music retailer in the US in 2008.
9. iPhone (2007) — The iPhone did for the phone experience what the Macintosh did for personal computing — it made the power of a smartphone easy to harness. Apple is now the world's most profitable maker of phones, and the influence of the iPhone is evident in all smartphones.
10. iPad (2010) — Dozens of companies, including Apple, had created tablet computers before the iPad, but none caught on. The iPad finally cracked the code, creating a whole new category of computer practically by itself.

Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is a Hindu temple in Samayapuram near Trichy / Tiruchirappalli in Tamil NaduIndia. The main deity,Samayapurathal or Mariamman is made of sand and clay like many of the traditional Mariamman deities, and hence unlike many other Hindu deities there are no abhishekams (sacred washing) conducted to the main deity, but instead the "abishekam" is done to the small stone statue in front of it.
It is believed by the devotees that the Goddess has enormous powers over curing illnesses[1] and hence, it is a ritual to buy small metallic replicas, made with silver or steel, of various body parts that need to be cured, and these are deposited in the donation box.[citation needed]
Devotees also offer mavilakku, (Tamil - மாவிளக்கு) a sweet dish made of jaggery, rice flour and ghee. [2] Offerings of raw salt is also made to the Goddess by the rural devotees.
The temple attracts thousands of devotees on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, the holy days for Mariamman. Samayapuram is the second most wealthy (in terms of cash flows) temple in Tamil Nadu after Pal

History


History of the temple is unclear. In early 18th century, King Vijayaraya Chakkaravarthi built the present day form of the temple.[3] There is scant history of the period before that though it is believed that the locals worship the Goddess for many centuries before building the current temple. One legend says that the present deity was at the Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam, and one of chief priests of the temple believed that the idol caused him illness and hence asked it to be removed from the temple. It is a common belief in that part of the region that such local Gods have immense powers and they must always be satisfied by proper offerings and sacrifices. The idol was moved outside Srirangam, and later found by some of the passerby who built a temple named, the Kannanur Mariamman temple.

During that period (around 17th century CE), Trichi was ruled by the Vijayanagar kings and the area was used as an army base. It is believed that they made a commitment to build the temple if they win the war and after attaining success they built a shrine for the Goddess. Originally it was under the management of the Thiruvanaikaval temple, a popular one in the region. Later, the control was split and currently Samayapuram is under an independent trust monitored by the Government of Tamil Nadu, which also monitors the annadanam distribution (an act of offering food to the devotees).[4]

  • Thai Poosam, usually occurring in the Tamil month of Thai.
  • Like most Tamil temples the main festival is during the start of the summer, generally in April. During this time, the temple chariot processions and teppams (lake processions) happen.[5]
  • All the Fridays in the Tamil months of Aadi (July 15 - Aug17) and Thai (Jan 15 - Feb 15) are celebrated in a grand manner.

Samayapuram is a significant symbol of the native culture in rural Tamil Nadu and there a number of unique practices concerning the Mariamman temples. Samayapuram has been used a model to describe rural folklore in a number of research works on sociology and religion.[6][7][8]
During festivals, it is not unusual to find people doing extreme things to make their bodies suffer as an act of sacrifice including, walking over a red-hot bed of charcoal and holding hot mud-vessel in bare hands. Mariamman temples also typically involve Samiyattam wherein one of the deveotees (usually a female), gets hyper-excited during prayer and starts talking in an hysteric way interpreted by the devotees as an act of communication by God.[6][7]

The legacy of Samayapuram is well spread beyond Tamil Nadu and even after centuries of emigrating from India, many people in Sri LankaSingaporeSouth Africa and Fiji still maintain their loyalties to the temple and try to create similar temples and environment in their new country, raising both a cause of concern and an appreciation of diversity.There is also a Samayapuram Mariamman Temple in Tanjong Rambutan at Malaysia.There is also a shrine for Goddess Sri Samayapuram Mariamman at the Sri Veeramuthu Muneeswarar Temple which is located at Yishun Industrial Park,Singapore. During the month of Aadi,the annual Kozh Valarpu festival is conducted with much granduer by the Sri Samayapuram Mariamman Pillaigal at Jurong West,Singapore.[8][9]

[edit]Chithirai Ther Thiruvila (Charriot Festival in the month of Chithirai --- April)

Samayapuram is located 15 KM from Tiruchirappalli on the National Highway (NH-45) which is now a 4 Lane Road from Chennai to Tiruchirappalli.
Here, at Samayapuram, the Chithirai Charriot Festival is celebrated for a period of 13 days. The Festival Starts on the 1st Tuesday of the month “Chithirai”. The Charriot Festival will be on the 10th day of the Festival. The Chariot (Car) with Goddess Samayapuram Mariamman will be pulled by devotees around the Temple. It is a Maha Festival --- Grand Festival, which attracts Lakhs of Devotees.

During the Charriot Festival, no vehicle is allowed to go inside SamayaPuram Town and all the vehicles are stopped one Kilometer away from the Town and everybody have to go to the temple by walk.
The Crowd is so much, though the Government made so many arrangements, still it is un-manageable. Luckily for Devotees, nowadays, they are following the traffic rule of left side walking in the road. This helps a lot for the smooth movement, which avoids any complications associated with big crowds. Still you will find that so many children missing, which is being announced during the festival time in the loud speakers.
During the Charriot Festival time, the Local Government arranges a ‘’’Special Bus Stand’’’, which is one Kilometer away from the SamayaPuram Town. All the Buses and any other 2 / 3 / 4 wheelers are stopped there only. The vehicles which are going beyond Samayapuram in NH-45 will only be allowed with a little bit delay.
The 4 laning of the National Highway 45 has helped to ease traffic congestion to a considerable extent. Onward traffic can take the flyover, while those going to Samayapuram for Darshan can take the Service Lane which leads to the Temple.
For festival days, during the Chithirai Charriot Festivals, there are 24 hours bus services to nearby places like, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Thuraiyur, Thanjavur and other nearby Small Towns. Further, there are continuous Town Bus Services provided which mainly connect to Tollgate (Salem-Trichy main road junction), Chathiram Bus Stand and Central (Main) Bus Stand.
During the Festival days we can see that, the Tamil Nadu Police, NCC, Scout (School and College Students) Controlling the Crowd every where including the Temple premises.
Mother of all Mothers --- The Goddess Shiva Sakti ---Samayapurathal is so Powerful to fulfill the Prarthanas of Devotees. In very few temples, you can see the presiding deity from the entrance of the temple. Yes, Samayapurathu Mariyamman is visible from the Main Entrance of the Temple and it will look like that the mother is waiting for your arrival.

Thiruvannamalai Annamalaiyar temple

Thiruvannamalai the home of Annamalayar or Arunachaleswarar and Unnamalayal, is an ancient city named after the holy mountain. Thiruvannamalai is one of the Pancha Bootha Sthalangal representing the fire element and also a historic pilgrim centre, located about 175 km from Chennai and 66 km from Pondicherry. It is the Mukthi Sthalam (Place of Salvation) for several saints like Ramana Maharishi, Arunagirinathar etc. Every full moon day(Pournami), thousands of pilgrims worship Shiva by circumambulating the Arunachala hill barefoot.

Of the great temples of Tamilnadu, Annamalayar temple is one. It is spread over an extent of 24 acres. The number of Gopurams are 9 in all. Of these, four are in the midst of the walls. Raja gopuram is the name, by which the big tower in the east is called. Ammanaiammal gopuram, Tirumanjana gopuram and pey Gopuram are the names of the north, south and west towers respectively.

The Holy Mountain of Arunachalam rises up with an elevation of 2669 feet (800 m). The Road encircling the mountain where devotees circumbulate is 8 1/2 miles which is 14 kms long. On Full Moon(Pournami) days and festival days (like Karthigai, first day of the Tamil month, Tamil New Year day) hundreds and thousands of devotees circumbulate (GIRIVALAM) the mountain and get the blessings of the Lord Arunachalam. The Annamalai Hill was Agni (fire) during Kirthayugam, was Manikkam (Emerald) during Threthayugam, was Pon (Gold) during Dwaparayugam and rock during Kaliyugam. There are eight lingams located at the eight directions and provides an octagonal structure to Tiruvannamalai Town. The eight lingams are: Indra Lingam, Agni Lingam, Ema Lingam, Niruthi Lingam, Varuna Lingam, Vayu Lingam, Kubera Lingam and Esanya Lingam

Karthigai Deepam

The Karthigai Deepam festival is celebrated in the Tamil month of Karthigai. The festival begins in the uthiradam (star) day in Karthigai and winds up with the Bharani Deepam lit in the early hours of the tenth day. The Deepam is lit at dusk, Coinciding with a full moon, after the Ardhanareeswarar deity is taken to the "Katchi Mandapam" where the Panchamoorthis have already been kept. In all nine days Poojas will occur both in morning and evening. On seventh day five wood cart(marathier) for each Vinayagar, Murugar, Annamalayar, Unnamalai amman and Sandigeswarar.

1) Nature versus Nurture. His sister is famous author Mona Simpson but he didn’t know it until he was an adult.. Her first novel,’ Anywhere but Here’, was about her relationship with her parents. Which, ironically, were Steve Jobs’ parents too. But since Steve Jobs was adopted they didn’t know they were brother-sister until the 90s when he tracked her down. It’s proof (to an extent) of the nature versus nurture argument. Two kids, without knowing they were brother and sister, both having a unique sensibility of life on this planet to become among the best artists in the world in completely different endeavors.
2) His father’s name is Abdulfattah Jandali. Steve Jobs biologically was half Syrian Muslim. Steve Jobs' biological mother gave him up for adoption one week after giving birth. She was unmarried and was also in graduate school. He was adopted by an Armenian couple, Paul and Clara Hagopian. The one requirement his biological parents had was that he be adopted by two college educated people. But the couple that adopted him lied at first and turned out not to be college educated (the mom was not a high school graduate) so the deal almost fell through until they promised to send Steve to college. A promise they couldn’t keep .So despite many layers of lies and promises broken, it all worked out in the end.
3) He made the game  “Breakout”.
4) He denied paternity on his first childHe fathered a child with a woman named Chrisann Brennan but denied paternity, claiming he was sterile.Eventually Jobs became a good father. Lisa computer (the “Apple III”) was named after this first child.
5) He’s a pescetarian. He ate fish but no other meat.
6) He didn’t give any money to charity. And when he became Apple’s CEO he stopped all of their philanthropic programs. He said, “wait until we are profitable”. And even when they became profitable, there was no corporate philanthropy.
7)He lied to Steve Wozniak. When they made Breakout for Atari, Wozniak and Jobs were going to split the pay 50-50. Atari gave Jobs $5000 to do the job. He told Wozniak he got $700 so Wozniak took home $350.
8) He was a Zen Buddhist. He was such a hardcore Zen Buddhist that he almost thought about joining a monastery and becoming a monk. He was married in a Buddhist tradition by a Zen monk who was his own personal guru.
9) He didn’t go to college. Steve Jobs went to Reed College for one semester and then dropped out.  
10) Psychedelics. He enjoyed LSD: After dropping out of college, Jobs traveled to India in 1974, became a Buddhist, and experimented with the psychedelic drug LSD. Steve describes his LSD experiences as "one of the two or three most important things he has done in his life."
11) Apple is one of many inventions: Jobs is listed as either primary inventor or co-inventor in 338 US patents or patent applications related to a range of technologies from actual computer and portable devices to user interfaces (including touch-based), speakers, keyboards, power adapters, staircases, clasps, sleeves, lanyards and packages.
 
12) He dated Dianne Keaton and Joan Baez: Before marrying his wife Laurene Powell in 1991, Steve dated Diane and Joan. Baez
13) He was fired from Apple: Steve created Apple at the age of 20 out of his parents' garage with his friend Steve Wozniak. He and Steve had a falling out as he turned 30 and he was fired. Jobs said it was the best thing to ever happen to him. "The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again," he once said.
14) Dyslexic : He was Dyslexic like some other greats such as Einstein, Graham Bell and Henry Ford
15) He was declared dead once before in 2008 when Bloomberg had announced his death
16) Forever in Blue Jeans : He owned more than 100 pair of Levi Blue Jeans which was part of his daily uniform
 
17) Number Zero : His employee number in Apple was 0. He was originally assigned no 2 behind co-founder Steve Wozniak. Job protested and settled only for ‘0’ because ‘0’comes before 1.

  • Well celebrated on penultimate day of Navarathri
Mangalore/ Bangalore, Oct 8, 2008: The Navarathri celebrations during the nine days is a cluster of festivities. While the last day is the Navarathri the succeeding day is the Vijayadashami and preceding day is the important festival of Ayudha Pooja - It is a day when man pays respect to his implements and machinery that includes agricultural implements, industrial machinery, vehicles and nowadays even the computers. In short whatever Man woman or child uses for learning, earning and living is offered poojas on that day.

Walk through the streets of any city town or village you will find bullock carts, buses, cars two wheelers or anything that moves on wheels will be smeared with chalk paste, Kumkum, turmeric and bedecked with flowers, after being serviced the previous night. Or go into any machine shop right from printing to high-tech satellite launch sites all machineries would have received the same treatment and perhaps an additional ‘aarati’ also.

There is a philosophy behind the Ayudya Pooja. In Hindu school of thought even the mechanical non living things have to be respected for they help the mankind to progress and prosper. They are made of metal and some of them could be dangerous to use if anybody uses them without care. The pooja offered will help the human beings to respect the non living things and use them safely without hurting themselves and make judicious use of the materials and implements.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The true splendor of the Ayudha Pooja could be seen in the Mysore Palace where every gun, every spear every armaments, vehicles that belonged to the erstwhile Maharaja are cleaned given a coat of fresh polish and are displayed in the exhibition for the common man to see.
 

No historian is able to predict the time of this the emergence of such a meaningful practice and reverence to the non living things, but it is believed that Goddess Durga when she slayed the demon king he had threatened to take over the world with his evil force and infuse life into the non living things as the mission she undertook was perhaps the last chance for the forces of god to prevail on this earth.
 

Later the Rajpuths, the Kadambas, Marathas, Peshwas, Wodyears, Cholas, Pallavans, Cherans have practiced Ayuda Pooja, at certain time of the Bhakti movement even the alien Moghul sultanates had followed this tradition on the advise of their Hindu ministers and commanders. Akbar, Aurangazeb, Humayun are some of the kings of the Moghal empire who did celebrate Ayudha Pooja say historians. 
 
 But in the modern days this tradition is being followed at all levels right form the street corner lathe to the ultra modern IT or BT parks observe holiday for Ayudha Pooja. The KSRTC and BMTC offers pooja to over 10,000 buses on this day and every drive conductor and Mechanic irrespective of their religious affiliations offer pooja to their vehicles.

Origin of Durga - The Mythology.
Devi is the great goddess of the Hindus,the consort of Shiva and she is worshiped in various forms corresponding to her two aspects: benevolence and fierceness. She is Uma, "light"; Gauri, "yellow or brilliant"; Parvati, "the mountaineer"; and Jagatmata, "the-mother-of-the-world" in her milder guise. The terrible emanations are Durga "the inaccessible"; Kali, "the black"; Chandi, "the fierce"; and Bhairavi, "the terrible."

Significance of Durga Puja

The making of goddess idol is a very detailed work of art.
During Durga Puja, God in the form of the Divine Mother is worshiped in Her various forms as Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. Though the Goddess is one, She is represented and worshiped in three different aspects. On the first three nights of the festival, Durga is worshiped. On the following three, Lakshmi and then Saraswati Devi on the last three nights. The following tenth day is called Vijayadasami. Vijaya means "victory", the victory over one's own minds that can come only when these three: Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati are worshiped.

Meaning Of Durga
Durga is perhaps the most widely worshiped deity of Shakti. Maa Durga's divine characterization include entire Devibhagavatham is dedicated to her. Durga means one who is difficult to approach. However since she is the mother of universe she is the personification of tender love, wealth, power, beauty and all virtues.

Implications Of The Idol
The complete image of Goddess Durga represent destruction of evil and protection of good and reflects the point that in order to become divine one should keep one's animal instincts under control. Thus, by worshiping Durga the idea of ruthless destruction is invoked to annihilate all the desires and unfold divinity.

Its Connotation 
ln Bengal, Goddess Durga is worshiped for nine days. In South India, an altar decorated with a stepped platform and filled with small images of gods, animals,birds,and other beings, animate and inanimate, is worshiped for nine days. This altar is known as the Kolu. People re-dedicate themselves to their profession. On this day, a child also begins to learn the alphabet in a ceremony known as aksarabhyasa. This day marks the beginning of any type of learning. One offers gifts to one's teachers, seeks their blessings,and prays for success in one's new endeavors.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from this earth.
